Friends of the Waukegan Public Library
The Friends of the Waukegan Public Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, voluntary organization of community members committed to promoting and sustaining the collection, programs, and services of the Waukegan Public Library. The Friends manage ongoing and annual book sales and use the money they raise to support many activities and programs, such as the summer Courtyard Concert series, books and materials for the Children’s Department, special events, and more.
FRIENDS BOOK SALES & EVENTS
Check the library’s online calendar for details on our next sale, November 15-16, 2024. It will feature books for adults and children from every major genre, including fiction, cooking, history, crafts, gardening, biography, graphic novels, and more. There will be deals galore!
JOIN THE FRIENDS
Joining the Friends of the Waukegan Public Library is a great way to get involved with the Library! We have over 100 members and are always anxious to make new Friends. Membership in the Friends entitles you to the following benefits:
- Our quarterly newsletter
- An invitation to our Annual Meeting each spring
- Advance notice of special events
- Personal satisfaction of supporting a vital community resource
Membership forms are available in the library, using this link, and at our book sales and events.
Bring your completed form with cash/credit card/check payable to the Friends of the Waukegan Public Library to the Customer Service Desk or mail a check to the Friends of the Waukegan Public Library, 128 N. County St., Waukegan, IL 60085.

DONATE BOOKS/AV
The Friends of the Waukegan Public Library are currently accepting donations of books, audiobooks, and DVDs. Your donations of good quality items will help make the next sale a success and allow the Friends to continue supporting the Library’s work throughout the year.
Donated items are sold by the Friends in sales and on Amazon.com. The money earned through these sales is used to fund various library programs and events, such as the concert series. Inquire at the Customer Service Desk about making a donation of book sale items to the Friends of the Waukegan Public Library.
DONATION GUIDELINES
We are glad to accept donations of the following, for children, teens, and adults:
- Books in good condition, free of damage, dirt, odor, mold, and markings
- DVDs and Blu-Rays in good condition, free of scratches, and with the original artwork
We do not accept:
- Items that are worn, cracked or damaged, or have visible dirt or mold
- Items that are water damaged
- Books with broken spines, loose pages, or torn covers
- Encyclopedias
- Magazines
- Audio or VHS cassettes
- Music CDs
Please take your donations to the Customer Service Desk during open hours. If you have any questions, please contact the Friends at friendsofwaukeganpl@gmail.com. We welcome large donations from estate sales, downsizing, moving, etc.
