Job Title: Information Technology Technician

Status: Full-Time
Weekly Hours: 40hours per week; may include weekends and evening hours

Overview: Assists Digital Services Coordinator with the selection, installation, operation, and maintenance of library automation including complex local area and wide area computer networks. Provides a range of services to library computer users, including installation, configuration, and testing of personal computers and peripherals, and the administration, diagnosis and repair of various operating systems.

Maintain the level of computer and technological proficiency needed to perform job responsibilities
Respond to email messages from staff seeking help, ask questions to determine nature of problem and walk staff through problem-solving process
Install and maintain all software and hardware for all network workstations, servers, and equipment
Monitor the security of the Library’s network and related equipment
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems, making repairs where necessary
Analyze network system functions and make necessary changes to hardware and software
Assist in the management, operation, and maintenance of the Library’s local area network, public wireless network, and internet connectivity
May assist staff in providing computer-related information to the public
Assist in planning and development of technology services that meet the needs of the library
Other tasks as assigned

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, college work in progress toward electronics/computer technical certification or degree
Prior work history in the area of electronics/computer systems troubleshooting and repair

Excellent technical knowledge of network and computer software including Microsoft platform and application, productivity, and utility software
Hands-on troubleshooting experience
Extensive equipment support experience with PCs
Working technical knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, and standards
Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories
Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides
Ability to conduct research into system issues and products as required. Knowledge of computer network configuration, installation, management and troubleshooting
Able to work with vendors and service providers
Knowledge of telecommunication systems, voice and data, and equipment
Knowledge of electrical circuits and wiring

Understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills
Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Strong customer-service orientation
Self motivated, able to work independently
Willingness to learn, and knowing personal limitations and able to ask for help when needed

Job Title: Customer Service Clerk I

Status: Part-Time
Weekly Hours: 16 hours per week; includes weekends and evening hours

Overview: WPL staff members put quality in people’s lives by listening to constituents’ needs, identifying community issues, and responding with relevant solutions while responsibly managing resources. Library Services staff ensures all patron requests are satisfied with quality customer service at all times. Customer Service team members serve as the first contact for patrons in person and on the phone and answer basic questions about library services, assist the public in using library equipment, check out materials and collect fees and fines when patrons are unable to use self-service circulation equipment, and create and maintain patron records.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
College degree or experience preferred
1 year of experience in customer service

Pleasant personality, able to work with a diverse public and staff
Excellent listening and telephone skills
Able to work efficiently and independently and complete assignments with limited supervision
Able to accurately handle and account for money
Familiar with computer productivity software, e-mail and timesheets
Sound decision maker, able to respond appropriately in interpreting and applying policy
Able to accurately type and/or put items in order, alphabetically and numerically
Fluent in English and Spanish, oral and written
