Digital Literacy

Digital Literacy classes are available in English and Spanish. Our free classes introduce students to the Internet and Microsoft Word, as well as teach essential life skills like financial management and job readiness.

Who can enroll in the classes?

Classes are open to any adult, regardless of residency, and are filled on a first come, first served basis.

How much do the classes cost?

Classes are free.

When do the classes meet?

English classes occur Saturdays at 1:15pm and 3:15pm.  Check our calendar.

Spanish classes occur Sundays at 1:15pm and 3:15pm.

How long are the classes?

Classes are five sessions, once per week for two and a half hours.

Do I need to understand English to take the class?

Classes are available in either English or Spanish.

How do I sign up for the classes?

Registration is required and on a first come, first served basis. Individuals may register in person at the reference desk or by calling the library 847-623-2041, ext 251 for English classes or 847-623-2041, ext. 222 for Spanish classes.

What subjects are covered?

Our introduction to the Internet classes cover the following:

  • definition of the internet
  • internet navigation
  • internet search
  • email
  • internet safety and security

Our introduction to Microsoft Word classes cover the following:

  • creating, saving and printing documents
  • formatting text and documents
  • spell check
  • creating lists through bullets and numbering
  • learning about the Microsoft ribbon
  • Create, save and print documents

How many classes do I have to attend?

Participants must attend all four classes to complete the course. Classes are instructor led with discussions, demonstrations, hands-on activities and personal practice time

Will I get a certificate?

You will receive a certificate when you complete all four sessions.

Can my child attend the classes?

Classes are for adults only. Children are not allowed in the computer labs while instruction is being offered.

Job Readiness Classes | Clases de Preparacion para el Empleo

Looking to kickstart your job search? Come to the library! Our four-class series will present information about job searching, resume writing, online applications, and interview techniques. Participants in all four Job Readiness classes receive a flash drive!

Money Smart Financial Classes | Clases de Inteligencia Con Dinero

Be smarter with your money! Learn about banking, credit and loans, checking accounts, financial safety, consumer rights, and home ownership. Each student will receive a workbook and participate in hands-on activities.
